Sylvan School of Dance was established in 2012 following the retirement of the school’s former principal. With the help of the new teaching team the school continues to go from strength to strength.
Principal – Jena Tyler LRAD AISTD
I started dancing at the age of 3 as I was ‘clumsy’ and quickly decided that dance was my favourite pastime. My secondary education was at Thornden School and then Barton Peveril College whilst training at a local dance school where I loved performing in dance festivals and school shows. I then spent three years studying at the Royal Academy of Dance in London gaining a First Class honours degree in the Art and Teaching of Ballet and my teaching qualifications from the RAD and ISTD.
I have now been teaching for over 15 years and take great pride in providing quality dance education to the young people in my care.
I began dancing at a young age at my mother’s dance school and enjoyed all aspects of dance but my passion has always been tap. I have now been teaching for 18 years at a number of local dance schools and Southampton University. My teaching has also enabled me to pursue my love of choreography. I have had the privilege of choreographing several award-winning numbers as well as school shows and university events.
Laura began dancing at the age of 3 and immediately fell in love with it!! She competed in many festivals, including All England National Finals, and enjoyed performing in many different shows and pantomimes throughout the years. She gained places at 3 prestigious dance colleges and chose to further her training at Bird college. She soon realised that her passion was with teaching and started teaching at a few local dance schools. Laura has been training locally for her ISTD DDE exams and is so excited to get started at Sylvan in September.
